New Orleans

I have been a supporter of one casino at the Rivergate. But the proposals have changed from "at the Rivergate" to "at the site of the Rivergate." The proposals now call for demolishing the Rivergate.

As a preservationist, I am opposed to demolishing this beautiful landmark. Its delicately curved lines and arches are beautiful and unique in this city of square structures.

This building is an engineering marvel with its long-span concrete barrel roof structure. Anyone looking down at this roof or up from the interior can not help but be impressed.

The Rivergate was designed by the architectural firm of Curtis and Davis. This firm also designed the Superdome and has a worldwide reputation. In my opinion, the Rivergate is their best designed building in New Orleans.

It is ludicrous to consider demolition of such a landmark when New Orleans has so many vacant squares in and around the CBD.

What started off as a good idea has turned into a bad idea. Let's demolish this idea now.
